So far the first squad consists of Kaigen, Daveman, Strummer, Bubbles, Siljanus, Bortin, D.A. Lewis and Da_Toad.
The base was founded on the island of Corsica, birthplace of Napoleon and it was quickly set up.
Having done this I then proceeded to check out the raw 8 recruits that would form the basis of our first squad!
Having found the entire group of soldiers battle worthy (a rare one) I proceeded to outfit the base with all the extra things that were to be needed.
Finally the task of deciding who gets to carry what into battle was decided. Everyone but Strummer, Bubbles and D.A. Lewis will be given rifles. (Bortin will be our designated
grenadier and will be the first to recieve alien grenades, cause of a 76 throwing accuracy!) Strummer will be fielding our portable Rocket Launcher, Bubbles will field the Heavy
Cannon and D.A. Lewis will provide the heavy close combat support with his Auto-Cannon!
The rest of the day was quiet and the alien presence did not rear its head until the sun had set. Shortly after sunset one of the radar operators detected a small UFO travelling
at several times the speed of sound over the southern Sahara desert, and an interceptor was launched on what was hoped to be the first shot down UFO of the war. The chase was
over quickly as the craft disappeared off radar as soon as it left the coast of Africa. The interceptor landed and refueled, in time to chase down the second UFO, a very small
scouting craft just over the interior of Britain.
The men were sent in several hours later to salvage the craft and its crew of unknown size. The eight-man crew was ready for hell and packed enough overkill with rocket launchers
and auto-cannons to make sure whatever was found was soon dead.
The men were arranged in the craft as such.
Row 1 - Kaigen Daveman
Row 2 - Strummer Bubbles
Row 3 - Siljanus Bortin
Row 4 - D.A. Lewis Da_Toad
As the requested supplies that had been bought the day before had not yet arrived the men went in without the robotic tank and would be doing it alone.
The first man out with Kaigen and he quickly made it to the relative cover of a small wood shed. Daveman was next down and taking the other rout spotted the UFO and a sectoid.
His shots missed and Strummer came down next, he had a rifle...because I hit the wrong button in equipping. He also missed, this continued with Bubbles and Siljanus was then up.
He finally killed the alien when one of his 7.62mm slugs impacted into the side of its chest, leaving the alien with an instant diet and death consisting of a high velocity bean
bag.
The mission ended and the mission score was tallied up.
As well the first promotion was handed out to you know who - Siljanus - the Sectoid killing machine!
The men lifted off from central Britain with the men, one dead, smelly sectoid and a small UFO in the hold, all without a loss of life on our part. A darn FINE start to the
Brutesquad if I do say so myself.
The men were loaded and reported back to base and drinks were had by all, with Siljanus taking up the bill. The sectoid and all its gear were sold to scientists in American and
Europe for a tidy sum of $500,000 and the stocks were further enhanced. The first interceptor was given an Avalanche launcher as well and more ammo for the heavy squad weapons was
ordered. On the fourth of January 10 new scientists arrived at the base and doubled our efforts into creating new laser technology.
As well, 8 more men were requested for the Brutesquad, and should arrive any time now!
They arrived mere DAYS later, and they were Misguided, SuperDarkDude, Samurai, Ghoul, The Nature Boy, Binky, Valael and Chaz. Now because I’m going to be playing "HARDCORE" I’m
not firing anyone for bad bravery...thus SuperDarkDude, Samurai and The Nature Boy are all little cowards!
You three have been given the assignment of door openers...may God have mercy on your souls!
On the 6th of January the scientists made a breakthrough and the practical matters of making a laser weapon were realized! New plans for a laser pistol were made, but focus was
now shifted towards medi-kits for the troops.
The men landed within a hour of leaving the base and included on the Skyranger were 8 men and one new robotic tank on loan from the Japanese government. The tank rolled down the
ramp and spotted a sectoid with its back turned to the craft. It continued on and let Kaigen get shots in. The sectoid was dead before the end of the burst and Kaigen had gotten
his FIRST KILL!
The men then spread out and awaited the arrival of more grey aliens. On the next turn the men advanced further towards the alien craft that contained a wealth of important
materials, data and substances, the men were not opposed and the tank and men got closer and closer to the alien craft.
This advance continued unabated until Kaigen, Siljanus, Bubbles and D.A. Lewis had arrived at the front of the UFO's hatch, with the tank supporting them. It had become clear that
any remaining aliens had barricaded themselves into the UFO in the hopes of slaughtering the Brutesquad when they entered the UFO.
D.A. Lewis was picked to lead the assault upon the small craft and he went in first, he was confronted with two sectoids, one facing him, but off balance and one with its back
turned. He killed the one facing him and fired off a glancing miss at the other with his Auto-Cannon. Bubbles was in next and hit the other alien in the chest, collapsing it and
sending it into an unconscious death. The rest of the men piled in and made sure everything was secure.
The alien craft had been captured!!!! That’s what I thought! The unconscious sectoid rose to put up a last fight but Kaigen shot it down getting his sectoid kill. At the same time
Bortin had climbed a small farm house and found a sectoid on its roof. Firing a burst he injured it, but injury is not enough in X-COM. Bortin died then, a plasma shot piercing
his Kevlar Vest with ease. He shall be remembered.
Daveman then rushed into the building and ascended to the second floor to try and take the alien out when it descended to the floor. It somehow bypassed him and made it to the
first floor unnoticed. Daveman rushed down the flight of stair and crushed it!
The men scored a good mission and the men took out 4 aliens all together. We lost Bortin, but I think small sacrifices must be made in this war, I’m glad I only lost Bortin. As
well, I captured a VITAL stock of Elerium-115 on the craft, sure to help me in untold ways later on.
Finally there were new promotions handed out! All members of the team that assaulted the UFO were promoted, Kaigen, Bubbles and D.A. Lewis to Sergeant and Siljanus to Captain!
The men returned to the base and buried Bortin with full military honors. He was the first to die, but will not be the last!
