Come Get Some
by Tortboy

While I was in law school in Berkeley, my buddies and I would occasionally make weekend trips to South Lake Tahoe for snowboarding and/or gambling. After one successful trip, one of the guys decided to pony up some dough to buy an N64 and a bunch of multiplayer games. Duke-Nukem tended to be the old stand-by, with non-stop mayhem interrupted by numerous opportunities to ridicule and taunt. 30 minute deathmatch events would melt together until suddenly we realize the night was gone and the school day would soon begin. Some of these sessions would last @10 hours, so arriving to classes on Property, Criminal Law, Contracts or Torts fresh off of slaughtering each other digitally proved surreal. Realizing how cool the game would be if our campus was a map...trying to lure non-gaming classmates into playing with us...recruiting several more regular players to the point that someone was always acting as the "play by play man" until his turn would come, or we bought a second console. Sadly, the real world caught up with all of us, and the N64 was put out to pasture. "Come get some" indeed.
