Bleeding Over
by Jax

Years ago, I worked tech support at an ISP. On this particular Saturday, I was working the new weekend shift that none of our customers knew about, so I got exactly ZERO calls that day. Now, this being years ago and our computers not being state-of-the-art, I ended up playing Quake II. ALL DAY. My shift was 10 hours long and I was allowed to eat and drink at my desk. Needless to say, except for bathroom breaks, I never left my desk and I ended up playing Quake II for 10 hours straight.

When I left work that evening, the streets of downtown Chicago (where I worked) were pretty deserted. As I was walking to my train station, I see a person about two blocks down walking toward me. The first thought that pops into my head and I mutter aloud when I see them is: "Why in the world isn't that person dodging and jumping? I'm SO going to pick them off with my railgun!" At that point, I realized what I'd just muttered, shake my head, look anywhere but at the person approaching me and just get on the train for some serious real-world decompression time.
