Base Assault
By: Brian "Escher0" Pilnick
Map: Dragon Valley

One of my best gaming moments was recently with Battlefield 2. Several friends and I were playing on the Dragon Valley map on the Chinese team when we decided we wanted to blow up their artillery since their commander was being rather proficient with it in previous rounds. The US artillery is situated up on a hill north of their main base with the only ground approach being directly behind their base.

After a couple failed insertion attempts, we eventually make landfall using two boats and make our way up the hill. Since we had several people, all in one squad, we were essentially a mobile base, with a respawn, health, and ammo.

After destroying the artillery, we decide to stay close because of the trouble to get there and the US were sure to repair ASAP. We started hiding in the bamboo forest which is mere feet away from the out of bounds area. Soldiers tried to displace us several times but even with armored vehicles, we repelled them (thank you C4 ambushes!). Even if our squad leader died, a medic was stationed near him and would revive him.

We even made excursions into their base to blow radar and UAV (and to booby trap their helicopters). At one point, they got so fed up, they took a fully loaded transport copter and landed on our hill. We killed them all then crashed the copter into their base. For nearly an entire round, no one ever managed to take back our hill which was right in their backyard. Now before you call us campers, I'd like to say that we never killed people in their spawn (only as they attacked us) and our efforts did in fact have a large positive benefit for our team since most of their hardware was offline and we diverted a good amount of US resources. I'll never forget how crazy and fun it was the time we held that hill.
