Large Map 1 vs 1, Orcs vs. Night Elves

NOVEMBER 2, 2004 - The days heading towards the United States Presidential election were tumultuous at best. The candidates were tearing at each other like dogs attacking bloody meat.

And on the battle.net servers, another war was raging, one that would truly decide the election. That of RedMastaKillah [GOP] vs. -Aw3S0m3D00D-[DEM]. The game had lasted for so long, and now it was time for the climatic battle... the one that would decide the fate of the country.

VS.

-Aw3S0m3D00D-[DEM] is the Night Elf player. This fits because they are a race of high and mighty, hoity-toity, look-down-at-the-unwashed-from-our-tree elves. His main hero is John Kerry, a level 9 Demon Hunter. A formidable opponent, if a little fragile. His secondary hero though, was John Edwards, a level 7 Keeper of the Grove. Edwards' healing powers have proved incredibly valuable thus far, deflecting damage while hitting the enemy in the side flanks with surprise attacks from trees. The Night Elf army is very well balanced, with a good solid core and lots of ranged support. Neutrals such as George Soros and America Coming Together have also given the usually small Night Elf army a huge boost.

RedMastaKillah [GOP] is the Orc player. A brutish race, ruled by a series of religious/shamanistic leaders. He has benefited from a much stronger early game, and his main hero, George W Bush, has gotten to level 10. A Far Seer, GWB can also summon two very powerful wolves (Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld), who can go out and head into battle, doing damage while he himself stays out of the fray. Opponents say this is cheap but so what? It's his secondary hero that's the real strong point though. Karl Rove is a level 8 Blademaster, who was out in play for much longer than John Edwards was. Rove's stealth skills combined with the dreaded Whirlwind attack meant that he could sneak and cause incredible damage where -Aw3s0m3d00d- [DEM] thought he was strongest. However, the Orc army is this case is sorely lacking in support and neutral units. But it does have a strong core of conservative Troll berserkers and Orc grunts.

The game has been well played thus far, and the map has been evenly divided. Both sides have had incredible victories and agonizing defeats... but now resources are running low, and only a few more mines are left. One is Florida, and the other is Ohio. -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] felt that he has a good chance to get both... but make no mistake, RedMastaKillah [GOP] knows those mines well. In numerous games he always ended up with control of those mines. But this time he has never been so weakened. In the Debate Battles, he was so confident of victory he attacked with an army that was less than impressive. But John Kerry's demon form showed him how wrong he was... how oh so wrong he was.

As a result, GWB is not at 100% health going into the final battles. But the advantage is not all with the Night Elves. -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] was far to cocky with the uber-ness of his Demon Hunter, and sent John Kerry to several early deaths in the early game. -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] has consequently had to rebuild his entire army several times... while RedMastaKillah [GOP] has never needed to do that. Consequently, RedMastaKillah has a very sizeable resource advantage.

And the final battle begins, both groups make their way to the two decisive mines. But suddenly... a surprise attack from -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM]... a previous Orc-controlled mine, Pennsylvania, was taken! Is this enough to give -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] the edge? RedMastaKillah [GOP] takes advantage of this to clear the Florida mine of mobs. When -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] comes for Florida... they're ready for him. The fight was long and hard, but -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] had to pull back. But if he takes the Ohio mine, he can still win! RedMastaKillah [GOP] also know this, and sends the remains of his Orc army for the decisive battle at the Ohio mine!

John Kerry is unfortunately low on mana (and resources) to try to get Demon Form again. Unfortunately, John Edwards is also out of mana... he had to use nearly all of it in Florida in the futile quest to win that mine. But the Night Elf army is still strong, and they enter the fray! The sounds of battle were strong as the Orc and Night Elf entered the final battle, only one would survive...

... and it would be RedMastaKillah [GOP]. With both Ohio and Florida being mined... -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] cannot possibly keep up with his opponent in resource generation. He spends the last of his resources with futile efforts to stave away defeat, and manages to take the Washington mine away in a narrow victory, but make no mistake... RedMastaKillah [GOP] and the Orcs have won the day. The final attack on the Night Elf main base is just a formality, since -Aw3S0m3D00D- [DEM] can't even afford to produce a single wisp. But there's always a next match, and the battle.net ladder is fickle...

Large map, 1v1. I played Orcs, Computer was Night Elves. I went Far Seer first but rushed to tier 2 to get my Blademaster out to scout/harass. I had a relatively simple army; since the opponent was Night Elves I went Grunts/Demolishers with a few Troll Headhunters/Berserkers. The computer eventually came with a Demon Hunter/Keeper of the Grove combo. I eventually managed to set up a critical expansion very close to the Night Elf's main base, and staged a blitz attack from that point. The Night Elf's in their infinite wisdom went after one of my rinky dink expansions. While they were hitting one of my better defended ones, I attacked with my army, crushing most of the Night Elf's main base. Raiders + Demolishers made my force a very good base-assaulting army. This combined with Pillage gave me a HUGE resource advantage. They couldn't rebuild because my Blademaster was harassing the whole time, which meant no wisps. It was a matter of clean up after that.
